R. FUNG CHUK-MAN

says that there is already a scheme

under consideration by the Commissioner of Reconstruc-

tion. By this scheme it is expected that the Kowloon-

Canton Railway will make about $10,000 a day instead

of $5,000.

LR. CHỦ suggests that the Hong Kong Government in the

first instance buy the locomotives, and the Canton

Government can afterwards take them over on payment.

HIS EXCELLENCY

answers that, in order to have the line run

profitably, at least thres engines should be purchased. The ones used at present are unsuitable. Tenders

for a suitable locomotive have already been called for.

but he can invite tenders for three, if arshal Li

so desires.

MARS AL LI requests His Excellency to proceed accordingly.

HIS EXCELLENCY desires to make it quite clear that the se

three engines, if first purchased by the Hong Kong

Government, must be token over by the Canton Government

as soon as that Government is in a position to do so.

MR. CHU says that he presumes that until then the engines

would be hired to the Canton Government.

HIS EXCELLENCY

agrees. The engines will be on hire, but

he would like to know whether the Canton Government

proposes to buy them eventually.

ER, CHU and R. FUNG CHUK-MAN

answer in the affirmative.

MARSHAL LI says that his Goverment would like to have

details before any tender is accepted.
